A Word With Chelsea
As a person on this shared planet I recognize the various beliefs that we are all entitled to. However, I make it a point to refuse to support, back, or otherwise engage in behavior that is both offensive, divisive or detrimental to our growth as a whole. My designs are created to represent The Person, The Place and The Things of planet earth. I promise to do my part to support the rights and freedoms of all people of this planet regardless of race, religion, status or anything otherwise used as a way to divide instead of provide.
Below you'll find various causes that I support, but there are so many more that aren't listed. In the future, check back to see how She Designs Things is making a difference not only for the causes that are personal to me, Chelsea, but causes that support women and young girls in the tech industry. Afterall, without women would we have computers as we know them today?
Together, we can make a difference.
Choose to Support
Alcohol Abuse Awareness
Alcohol Abuse Awareness Month is observed in April.
Due to the loss of my sister, I am a strong advocate for mental health support for those who struggle with addiction. The prevailing stigma suggests that people start drinking or using drugs and alcohol, and if they simply stop, they will get better. This ideology neglects many individuals who are predisposed to addiction due to mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and many others. Support for this badge will go to the direct care of her two children and to fun research into the effects of mental health and addiction.
Intracranial Hypertension Awareness
IIH Awareness is observed in September.
Intracranial Hypertension is a rare neurological disorder that can have lasting effects and damage on the person with the illness. You can read my IH Story Here.
20% of all all sales from this purchase will go to fund research into IH. The proceeds will do to the Intracranial Hypertension Research Foundation.
LGBTQ+ Affirming
Take the pledge and display on your website the LGBTQ+ Affirming Business Badge. By downloading this badge, you pledge to respect the rights of LGBTQ+ employees, customers, and community members. You promise to not only create policies that help support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community, but to enforce them as well.
What’s the difference between LGBTQ+ Tolerant, Friendly and Affirming?
So, here's the deal. When a company is LGBTQ+ Tolerant, they're cool with the fact that someone might be gay or transgender. But, they just don't want to hear about it. It's what I call selective tolerance.
Being LGBTQ+ Friendly means that a company is cool with their employees being gay or trans and they hook 'em up with the same perks as the "heteronormative" employees.
LGBT Affirming companies embrace the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and aren't just friendly! They also make sure that there are policies and protocols in place to uplift and champion the rights of those who identify as LGBTQ+. They also understand and make considerable effects to create policies in the Black LGBTQ+ community. More to come on this topic soon.
